Google Wave Extensions Gallery Launches

After the release of Google Wave, finally today Google Launches the new Google Wave Extensions Gallery. The gallery is intended to make it easier for users to discover the fun and useful extensions. There are two types of extensions for Google Wave, robots and gadgets. Robots are actual participants to a wave and are meant to automate tasks and respond to certain events or conditions. Gadgets are more like traditional widgets, they are stand-alone apps that live inside a wave.

List of extensions of Google Wave:-

* Wave Sudoku (play Sodoku with friends in a Wave)
* Extension Installer (for developers only)
* Colcrop (game)
* Yellow highlighter (highlight text)
* Napkin gadget (for doodles)
* Waffle (date-picker)
* Iframe gadget (embed webpages in a Wave)
* Yes/No/Maybe gadget (for polls)
* Map gadget (insert maps)
* Video Chat Experience (chat in Waves)
* Phone Conference (call your friends)
* Mind Map gadget (collaborate on diagrams)
* Likey gadget (like/dislike a topic)
* Pollo gadget (for surveys)
* Take-out gadget (for ordering out)
* AccuWeather (weather forecasts)

To Use these Extensions, simply look for “Extensions” in the navigation panel of Google Wave.

Access Google Docs from Microsoft Outlook with Harmony

Harmony for Google Docs – is a free sidebar for Microsoft Outlook that eliminates the need to use e-mail attachments. Currently in free beta, this sidebar lets you share, e-mail, download, upload, and edit your Google Docs right from your desktop using Outlook 2007. Harmony for Google Docs features drag-and-drop functionality to send documents via e-mail, upload a new file to Google Docs, or just view a Google Doc right in Outlook.

To send a Google Doc via e-mail, you choose the file from the Harmony sidebar and drag it into your message window. Harmony creates a link to the Google Doc online instead of attaching it to the e-mail.

Just like in Google Docs, Harmony allows you to filter your documents by type. At the bottom of the sidebar window are filtering options that let you see all your documents or only text documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, presentations, or folders.

Google’s New Apps Store Google Apps Marketplace

Today Google launched the new App Store Google Apps Marketplace, Google made the announcement at its Google Campfire One event tonight. As the name suggests, it’s an online store where third-party developers can sell their applications to the 25 million users of Google Apps. The third-party apps are integrated with Google’s, so that users can access them just by logging into Google Apps, and so the apps can access data within Google Apps.

Microsoft Launches Tag Reader App for Android

Today Microsoft launched its first Android application Tag Reader, The company has released an Android port of its Tag app, which allows users to access information stored in its special barcode format. The application enables phone owners to scan various barcodes with their devices, and it is already available for download from the Android Market. Microsoft’s Tag technology enables users to transform their mobile phones in barcode readers. All that one has to do is to point the camera on the phone at a tag, take a picture, and the application will interpret it.

Other companies, including Google, are working on these mobile barcodes as well. In fact, just prior to the Nexus One unveiling, all Google employees were given the device with a special barcode on the back that other Android devices could scan to get that person’s information. The app is a free download from the Android Market. Microsoft hasn’t listed minimum requirements other than a camera and should support at least Android 1.5

Apple sues HTC for infringing 20 iPhone patents

Apple today filed a lawsuit against Nexus One Maker HTC for infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

In a statement, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said:

“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Google Acquires Flickr Photo Editor Picnik

Google has acquired Picnik, whose Web-based application lets people import and edit photos in a browser. Picnik is one of the fastest growing photo sites on the web. Picnik is a powerful, cloud-based photo editor that is integrated directly into Flickr, SmugMug and other photo repositories. Interestingly, Picnik is Flickr’s default photo editor. The editor works directly with online photo libraries like Flickr, Facebook, and Picasa Web Albums. Users can also upload files to the service and download them again when they are done. The editing capabilities it offers are a natural complement to a Picasa, even though the technology appears to be a mismatch: Picnik works in Flash, while most advanced Google apps use the slower JavaScript.

Buzzter: Add Google Buzz Mobile Version on Chrome

Buzzter is an new Google Chrome Browser Extension which gives you the feel of Mobile Buzz Version on Your Google Chrome. Buzzter is focuses on support for Google Apps Users. It gives Google Buzz mobile version for Google Apps Users.

To enable buzz (using this extention) for a Google App user do the following:

* Open http://gmail.com, logout from any gmail account.
* Login using your Google Apps for Domain account (x@x.com).
* Google will take you to a “Sign up for Gmail”-page. Close Gmail, DO NOT SIGN UP!
* Buzzter should work now as you’ve got a valid gmail-cookie, but connected to a google apps for domains account.

This is a terrible and extremely ugly solution, but this is workable until Google fixes Buzz for us App-users. Also keep in mind that location-services works very very poorly using a browser (obviously).

Google Earth available for Android

Google has announced today the availability of the all new Google Earth app for Android. The Android version of Google Earth is the fastest mobile version yet and comes with Roads layer, a feature that you might know from the desktop version (it provides “road labels drawn on top of the satellite imagery”). They’ve added a new feature to Google Earth for Android 2.1 called Roads Layer which is available in the desktop version. They’ve also taken advantage of Android’s voice recognition capabilities. Check it out in the Android Market if you have Android 2.1.

As with other versions, Google Earth for Android also includes photos, places, and local businesses, and the ability to customize so it displays the layers you use most. To download, search “Google Earth” in the Android Market. Since this is just for phones running Android 2.1, Droid users will have to wait until Motorola rolls out the long-awaited update.
