Access Google Docs from Microsoft Outlook with Harmony

Harmony for Google Docs – is a free sidebar for Microsoft Outlook that eliminates the need to use e-mail attachments. Currently in free beta, this sidebar lets you share, e-mail, download, upload, and edit your Google Docs right from your desktop using Outlook 2007. Harmony for Google Docs features drag-and-drop functionality to send documents via e-mail, upload a new file to Google Docs, or just view a Google Doc right in Outlook.

To send a Google Doc via e-mail, you choose the file from the Harmony sidebar and drag it into your message window. Harmony creates a link to the Google Doc online instead of attaching it to the e-mail.

Just like in Google Docs, Harmony allows you to filter your documents by type. At the bottom of the sidebar window are filtering options that let you see all your documents or only text documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, presentations, or folders.

Microsoft Office 2010 Price Announced

Microsoft has announced pricing for Office 2010, The company also confirmed the existence of the Office Professional Academic 2010 edition, which we first got word of last month after the retail box art for four SKUs leaked to the Web. The final product, expected to ship in the first half of the year, will come in four versions. All four will be available as full boxed products that permit their use on two or three PCs.

How much will Office 2010 cost?

In addition to the great momentum statistics, we are also releasing Office 2010 U.S. retail pricing today. Office 2010 will be offered in four versions, to make it easier to choose a version of Office that’s best for you – Office Home and Business, Office Professional, Office Home and Student, and Office Professional Academic. Microsoft announced that the beta of Office 2010 is now publicly available from the company’s Web site. Office 2010 suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and others. Among the features new to the beta is a social networking connector that allows users to bring in Windows Live and other social networking feeds into Outlook. When you’re reading an e-mail message to or from someone, the Connector appears at the bottom of your message in its own separate pane. The pane displays a history of your communications with that person in Outlook — e-mail messages, attachments exchanged, meetings scheduled in Outlook, and so on. You can see all these items in one big list or click a tab to view just one type — for example, just e-mails you’ve exchanged with that contact — then click an item to go directly to it.

Office 2010 Beta available for MSDN, Technet subscribers

RedmondPie discovered that Microsoft has made the official Office 2010 beta bits available on TechNet/MSDN Subscribers. Microsoft also has made the 64-bit Beta version of Office Web Apps — its Web-centric versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote — available for download to MSDN and TechNet subscribers today. Office 2010 Beta will be offered in both 32 and 64-bit versions.

The Office 2010 Beta webpage on Microsoft.com is already available, though it’s still just a placeholder: “The Office 2010 Beta will be available soon. Please come back later and try again.”

Add Tabs to Microsoft Office with OfficeTab

OfficeTab is a freeware that is able to provide tab feature support for Microsoft Office programs. Once you’ve installed OfficeTab, you can head into the settings panel, where you can enable or disable tabbed support in each application, move the tabs to the side or bottom, and change the appearance of the tabs with a number of styles to choose from. There are few options that you can configured the tab setting based on your personal preference like enable shortcut key to switch between tabs, set tab layout to auto size/size to fit/fixed, set the width of the tab, set tab appearance and color, set tab position to above/below/right/left workspace and many more.

Now you can use your Microsoft Office like Firefox with Tabs, OfficeTab is a free download for Windows only. It works the exact same way in Excel as it does in Word. And guess what? It works the same exact way in PowerPoint as well.

ProduKey is a new app from NISOFT, which allows you to recover ProductID and the CD-Key of Windows 7, Vista, XP & MS Office Product Keys and SQL Server installed on your computer. You can view this information for your current running operating system, or for another operating system/computer – by using command-line options.

This utility can be useful if you lost the product key of your Windows/Office, and you want to reinstall it on your computer.

OpenXML viewer – Open Docx Files in Firefox

Now you can open Docx Files without Microsoft 2007 in your Firefox Browser. OpenXML viewer is Firefox Addon which helps you to open Docx file in you Firefox. OpenXML is a free and open standard from Microsoft. MS Word 2007 document files are stored using OpenXML. The OpenXML Document Viewer application was designed to be a browser plugin, that can be used on computers which dont have Microsoft Office 2007, to view the Word 2007 files using just the browser.

The OpenXML Viewer browser plugin translates the Word 2007 file into HTML so that it can be viewed on a browser. Once the plugin is correctly installed, navigate to Tools>Options>Applications tab in Firefox.

Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview

Microsoft has officially revealed its Office Web Applications offerings ahead of the announcements at this years Worldwide Partner Conference today. With the Community Technology Preview, the next iteration of the Office System hits its first major milestone. But it’s not just Office 2010, it’s also SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010, as Microsoft informed since it announced that the Technology preview was planned to debut in July.

“Office 2010 is the premier productivity solution across PCs, mobile phones and browsers,” said Chris Capossela, senior vice president of the Microsoft Business Division at Microsoft. “From broadcast and video editing in PowerPoint, new data visualization capabilities in Excel, and co-authoring in Word, we are delivering technology to help people work smarter and faster from virtually any location using any device.”

Office 2010 and related products will deliver innovative capabilities and provide new levels of flexibility and choice that will help people:

• Work anywhere with Office Web applications — the lightweight Web browser versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote — that provide access to documents from virtually anywhere and preserve the look and feel of a document regardless of device.

• Collaborate better with co-authoring in Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and Microsoft OneNote 2010, and advanced e-mail management and calendaring capabilities in Microsoft Outlook 2010, including the option for users to ”ignore” unwanted threads.

• Bring ideas to life with video and picture editing, broadcast capability in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, easy document preparation through the new Microsoft Office Backstage view, and new Sparklines in Microsoft Excel 2010 to visualize data and spot trends more quickly.

Microsoft also announced that it is streamlining the number of Office editions from eight to five and enhancing each edition with additional applications and features. The company also announced that Office Web applications will be available in three ways: through Windows Live, where more than 400 million consumers will have access to Office Web applications at no cost; on-premises for all Office volume licensing customers including more than 90 million Office annuity customers; and via Microsoft Online Services, where customers will be able to purchase a subscription as part of a hosted offering.

Microsoft has released a service pack for the 2007 Microsoft Office suites. Microsoft is calling the update a “major performance enhancement” to the business software suite. 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 2 (SP2) gives customers the latest updates for the 2007 Office suite. This service pack includes two main categories of fixes: Previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, these fixes include improvements in stability, in performance, and in security. All the public updates, security updates, cumulative updates, and hotfixes that were released through to February 2009.

Send Tweets from Microsoft Excel

Post To Twitter is a handy tool designed to enable you to post your tweets right from Microsoft Excel. Note that there are two types of each add-in: ones with the project locked, in case you don’t care about the underlying VBA and just want to use the add-in to send tweets, and ones with the project unlocked, for you to examine the VBA code and make adjustments, send me corrections, make comments, etc.

To load the add-in, open the zip file and place the xla/xlam file somewhere safe. In Excel, go to Tools » Add-Ins and click Browse to look for the file. A new menu item on your Data Menu should appear: Post To My Twitter Account. For those of you thinking of using this add-in at work, consider downloading the unlocked version and changing the application title, so it looks inocuous on your menu.
