Access Google Docs from Microsoft Outlook with Harmony

Harmony for Google Docs – is a free sidebar for Microsoft Outlook that eliminates the need to use e-mail attachments. Currently in free beta, this sidebar lets you share, e-mail, download, upload, and edit your Google Docs right from your desktop using Outlook 2007. Harmony for Google Docs features drag-and-drop functionality to send documents via e-mail, upload a new file to Google Docs, or just view a Google Doc right in Outlook.

To send a Google Doc via e-mail, you choose the file from the Harmony sidebar and drag it into your message window. Harmony creates a link to the Google Doc online instead of attaching it to the e-mail.

Just like in Google Docs, Harmony allows you to filter your documents by type. At the bottom of the sidebar window are filtering options that let you see all your documents or only text documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, presentations, or folders.

Microsoft Launches Tag Reader App for Android

Today Microsoft launched its first Android application Tag Reader, The company has released an Android port of its Tag app, which allows users to access information stored in its special barcode format. The application enables phone owners to scan various barcodes with their devices, and it is already available for download from the Android Market. Microsoft’s Tag technology enables users to transform their mobile phones in barcode readers. All that one has to do is to point the camera on the phone at a tag, take a picture, and the application will interpret it.

Other companies, including Google, are working on these mobile barcodes as well. In fact, just prior to the Nexus One unveiling, all Google employees were given the device with a special barcode on the back that other Android devices could scan to get that person’s information. The app is a free download from the Android Market. Microsoft hasn’t listed minimum requirements other than a camera and should support at least Android 1.5

Windows Phone 7 is official

Microsoft unveiled the next version of its operating system for mobile phones, Windows Phone 7 Series, featuring a move away from applications and towards functions. The version 7.0 of its mobile operating system will have a newly designed homescreen and elements from Microsoft’s Zune HD music player, as well as gaming elements from its Xbox. Office software is redesigned as well, and Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, is also integrated in the new software via a one touch search button at the foot of the OS’s UI.

Windows Phone 7 Series creates an unrivaled set of integrated experiences on a phone through Windows Phone hubs. Hubs bring together related content from the Web, applications and services into a single view to simplify common tasks. Windows Phone 7 Series includes six hubs built on specific themes reflecting activities that matter most to people:

Windows Mobile 7 details leaked

PPCGeeks have come across some very interesting information on Windows Mobile 7, they confirmed that Windows Mobile 7 is going to make at least a partial debut at Mobile World Congress 2010 in a little over a week’s time. There is a long list of supposed features leaked with regards to the upcoming platform which are posted below:-

* The User Interface is based upon codename “METRO”. It will be very similar to the Zune HD User Interface with a complete revamp of the “Start” screen. The UI is “Very Clean”, “Soulful” and “Alive”
* Unfortunately there will be no Flash support at the get go as there was not enough time to implement these features.
* Windows Phone 7 will only support application installation through service based delivery. (i.e Marketplace). Application installation via storage card will not be possible.
* No Multi-Task support. Applications will “Pause” when in the background, however will support notifications via push notifications.
* Marketplace will now support “try before you buy” as well as an API
* No NETCF backwards compatibility. This means the original rumor of no backward compatibility for applications holds to be true. That being said, there are high hopes of porting the NetCF to the newer platform easily.
* Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010
* Full Zune Integration
* Windows Mobile Device Center will no longer be used. Zune software to take over syncing via PC.
* OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc
* Full XBOX Gaming Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)
* Full support for social networking

Twitter App for MicroSoft Zune HD released

Microsoft has today unleashed a Zune HD Twitter application, following the release of the mobile Bing app for Apple’s iPhone. It is first and foremost, a very attractive Twitter client. The application is free, and will allow users to update & read updates from their Twitter account, providing a Wi-Fi connection is available.

Microsoft’s Bing available for iPhone

Microsoft Bing, has finally made an iPhone app, which is now up on the Apple iTunes app store. And the app itself offers a terrific overall mobile search experience, particularly in maps and local. Like Google’s Mobile app, the Bing application is a free App Store download, and acts as a gateway to Bing’s Web search and other services. It maintains the Bing Web site’s look and feel, with text laid atop a colorful background image, but using simplified menu options for navigation.

Microsoft has already made Bing apps for Windows phones, the BlackBerry from Research in Motion, the Sidekick and select BREW-based devices on Verizon, as well as Bing mobile from a browser. Download Bing For iPhone here

Microsoft Office 2010 beta Download Free

Microsoft announced that the beta of Office 2010 is now publicly available from the company’s Web site. Office 2010 suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and others. Among the features new to the beta is a social networking connector that allows users to bring in Windows Live and other social networking feeds into Outlook. When you’re reading an e-mail message to or from someone, the Connector appears at the bottom of your message in its own separate pane. The pane displays a history of your communications with that person in Outlook — e-mail messages, attachments exchanged, meetings scheduled in Outlook, and so on. You can see all these items in one big list or click a tab to view just one type — for example, just e-mails you’ve exchanged with that contact — then click an item to go directly to it.

Office 2010 Beta available for MSDN, Technet subscribers

RedmondPie discovered that Microsoft has made the official Office 2010 beta bits available on TechNet/MSDN Subscribers. Microsoft also has made the 64-bit Beta version of Office Web Apps — its Web-centric versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote — available for download to MSDN and TechNet subscribers today. Office 2010 Beta will be offered in both 32 and 64-bit versions.

The Office 2010 Beta webpage on Microsoft.com is already available, though it’s still just a placeholder: “The Office 2010 Beta will be available soon. Please come back later and try again.”

Bing’s Best is one of the extra Windows 7 themes that Microsoft released on October 22nd, 2009, concomitantly with the general availability of the platform. Two dozen background images from Bing are now available for download via a single Feature Theme for the successor of Windows Vista. Users only need to download the pack and execute the file in order to personalize their machine with Bing wallpapers. Of course, the Bing’s Best theme pack only works with Windows 7.
