Ubuntu released first beta of their upcoming Ubuntu 10.04 LTS release. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Beta 1 is now available as a free download. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Beta 1 is based on the 2.6.32.9 Linux kernel and features a number of changes over the previous 9.10 release, including the latest GNOME desktop environment. Package updates include X.org 7.5 with X Server 1.7, OpenOffice 3.2 and version 3.6 of the Firefox web browser, which features Yahoo! as the default search engine. The change from Google to Yahoo! comes as part of a new revenue sharing deal between Yahoo! and Canonical.
Ubuntu 10.04 just got more social, announcing a brand new built-in integration with Twitter, identi.ca, Facebook, and other social networks, right from your MeMenu panel. This integration is built off from the Gwibber project, which has a new backend, for greater reliability, and multi-column view, for following multiple feeds at once.
The desktop and netbook editions are optimized for fast booting. The server editions are optimized for better integration with the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud. Download Ubuntu 10.04 beta 1 here
