Facebook, Myspace & Orkut Desktop Client: Scrapboy

A free app that provides an IM-client-like front end to Facebook, MySpace, and Orkut, Scrapboy is a useful tool that brings the nitty gritty popular social networking sites to your desktop. The downloadable software acts as an alternative interface. Simply download Scrapboy and select your favorite social network. Once you’re logged in, you can configure it to notify you when your profile changes, when new photos are tagged with you in them, you get mail from other users, or someone adds a comment to your profile. Additionally, you can configure Scrapboy to notify you when your friends profiles are updated as well.

Once you’ve selected your favorite social network and logged into your profile, Scrapboy will instantly notify you of activity around your network. You’ll get a pop-up over your taskbar when a new photo has been tagged of you, or your friends change their profile status.

If you’re a Facebook user and use Facebook chat to stay in touch with your friends on Facebook, Scrapboy can do that as well. The app sports features specific to Facebook, MySpace, and Orkut; the designers didn’t want users of those networks to have to keep going back to the Web in order to perform certain tasks. In a way, Scrapboy is three apps in one, and selecting your social network opens up features specific to that network.

For example, Orkut users can use Scrapboy to bring scraps from your friends scrapbooks to your desktop. Facebook users can use Facebook chat.
