Dropboks is a single page application build on Prototype and friends, that allows you to simply upload files for safe keeping. DropBoks gives you 1GB of free storage for uploading and downloading files. The application is ad free, and survives on user donations. They do a good job at letting you use it pre-signup, and giving good info via tooltips.
What’s better, the site doesn’t have any ads – it is funded entirely through donations. According to Luke, the site founder, this funding model is so far working well. This doesn’t surprise me, because when there aren’t annoying ‘YOU WON’ flashing banners, people probably feel more inclined to click that ‘donate’ button.
