Google Adds YouTube To Its Search Index
Google revealed the first effect of the recent partnership between Google Video and YouTube today, when it announced it was adding YouTube video results to its Google Video search index. Google purchased YouTube for $1.65 billion in early October. The deal closed in mid-November, but the two companies have stayed quiet regarding whether they would remain independent or work together. The company issued the following statement updating the status of the merger: “The two services would remain largely independent and play to their respective strengths.” Google search results already include content that’s hosted on YouTube. And starting today, YouTube video results will appear in the Google Video search index, users can click on YouTube thumbnails and will be directed to YouTube.com to view the videos.
“Google and YouTube share the vision of enabling anyone to find, upload, watch and share original user-generated and premium videos worldwide, and the dedication to innovate with video to offer compelling services for our users,” a Google spokesperson added in an interview with CMJ. “Together, we can bring better content and product features to users. With Google resources, YouTube will continue to innovate and build world class services for their users and communities.”
