Google’s has just released version Google Earth 5.0, adding historical imagery, maps of the ocean’s floor, and even better features for touring the world from your desktop. Beginning today, the app will include a far more detailed map of the ocean floor that lets users drop below the surface of the water.

Google’s new tool allows basic information such as temperature and salinity to be overlayed with species distributions and the tracks of tagged animals such as whale sharks, turtles and eels.
