Yes Apple I-Pad’s got competition? Not quite. But at least a very low-cost, bare-bones version of its tablet computer has been announced by the human resource development (HRD) ministry. The Indian prototype is impressive–especially at a $35 price point. The device runs on a variation of Linux. It has no internal storage, but it is capable of storing data on a memory card. It has a built in word processor, video conferencing capabilities, and–most importantly for a cloud-based workforce–a Web browser. Oh–it can also run on solar power.
The prototype looks like the recently released Apple iPad but cost only a fraction of the iPad. The tablet doesn’t have a hard disk, but instead uses a memory card, much like a mobile phone.

I want one of the $35. Pads. How do I order
Hi Carol, it will only come out by 2011. $35 rate might only be applicable to students. It might take several years to meet the domestic demand.
