Microsoft Bing Launches Visual Filtered Search

Microsoft on Monday introduced a new “Visual Search” feature in its Bing search engine. Visual Search, the new service allows you to “formulate and refine your search queries through imagery,” and is designed to be used for sets of results that tend to be more structured say Bing. The new demo, which will require Microsoft’s Silverlight technology to work, will let users search through a number of different products and people via the new search feature.

With Visual Search, Microsoft may have added a feature to Bing that gives it a leg up on Google in their ongoing search war. Current Visual Search galleries fall in categories including entertainment, famous people, reference, shopping and sports. To use Visual Search, people must first download Silverlight, a hurdle that could impede usage. Some computer users report problems with downloading the multimedia plugin, which also may be blocked by corporate security systems.
