Apple today made available the first iOS firmware for the upcoming Apple TV. The firmware with filename “AppleTV2,1_4.1_8M89_Restore.ipsw” is a 242 MB download, and is available from Apple’s website. The new Apple TV runs on a flavor of iOS, the same operating system running on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. That, combined with the Micro-USB “service port” on the Apple TV’s backside, means it’s only a matter of time until it gets jailbroken.
The new Apple TV has built-in HDMI, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and an internal power supply for easy set-up. The Apple TV is also key to the new AirPlay feature that will be available in iOS 4.2 coming this November.
