Nokia today officially launched the Ovi Store. Nokia said it opened its online software and content store, Ovi Store, globally to some 50 million phone users on Tuesday. Nokia aims to follow the success of Apple’s App Store with its new offering. The Ovi Store allows developers to list their programs in an online catalog so users can easily download or buy them.

More than 50 Nokia devices are compatible with the service from day one, with stacks more slated to roll out over time – Nokia estimates that around 50 million people with Nokia devices will be able to benefit from Ovi Store right now.
