ShadowExplorer is a freeware utility mainly aimed at Windows Vista Home edition users to allow access to the shadow copy storage and make the point-in-time copies of the backup files available to the user.
ShadowExplorer allows you to browse the shadow copies created by the Windows® VistaTM Volume Shadow Copy Service. It’s especially thought for users of the home editions, who don’t have access to the shadow copies by default, but it’s also useful for users of the other editions.

Features of ShadowExplorer:
+ Show available point-in-time copies
+ Browse through Shadow Copies
+ Retrieve versions of files and folders
Windows Vista Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise editions users can use this tool to export the shadow copy data to another physical disk as a backup against drive crashes. After installation, launch ShadowExplorer, and choose your desired restore date from the drop-down menu at the top of the window. Navigate through the file browser to locate an item that you’d like to restore, then right-click it and choose Export. Save it to any location you wish.
