Most of us know that when we have to Shutdown or restart our PC we have to do this method GO to Start and then Select Turn off or Restart. But now i find a easy way to shutdown and Restart your PC from the Desktop. With this trick you can add Shutdown and Restart button on your desktop.

Just follow the instructions here:

1) Right-click on the desktop and choose New Shortcut.
2) When the box comes up, browse to the file C:\Windows\System32\Shutdown.exe, click Next, name the shortcut, and click Finish.
3) Now right-click on your new shortcut and choose Properties. In the Target box (the box which shows the location of the Shutdown.exe program), attach one of the following commands at the end : -l (to log off), -s (to shut down), or -r (to reboot).

If you also add the command -t xx (where xx is a number of seconds), your shutdown procedure will display a warning and countdown before activating. I chose 10 seconds which is more than enough time.

Thats it, so just do it and enjoy the new Buttons on Your Desktop.

Nice post buddy. I would like to make a correction. Hope you don’t mind.

Instead of “C:\Windows”, it will be better if you put %windir% . Windows may be installed in some other drive than C:\

Other than that, you can also add a LOCK-UP button to your desktop. Procedure is same as mentioned in the post. When the shortcut box appears, type %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation in the location field. That’s it.

:-)
