Apple announced several additions to its computer lineup today, with a new MacBook laptop and iMac desktop computer, as well as a mouse with multi-touch capabilities. The company refreshed its line of iMacs today with additional two screen sizes: a 21.5-inch and 27-inch model. They both feature a new LED backlit displays with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

The new iMacs come in 21.5-inch and 27-inch flavors, and the 27-inch displays feature a whopping 2,569-by-1,400 screen resolution – higher than high-defintion 1080p resolution. The 21.5-inch iMac has a 1,920-by-1,080 true 1080p high-def screen. The 21.5-inch models are available with 3.06-GHz or 3.33-GHz Intel Core Duo processors, and the 27-inch models are available with quad-core 2.66-GHz Core i5 and 2.8GHz Core i7 processors, in addition to the Core 2 Duos to the options list. Memory sizes of 4GB are standard across the board (with a maximum of 16GB ), as are 500-GB or 1-terabyte hard drives. A 2-TB drive is an option for all iMac models as a Configure to Order (CTO) option.

The iMacs will ship with Apple’s new “Magic Mouse,” which features multi-touch technology such as found on the iPhone. It has no mechanical buttons, balls or scroll wheels and users can navigate using finger gestures. Tuesday’s announcement included the successor to the Mighty Mouse, dubbed the Magic Mouse. Apple reckons the wireless device is the first-ever multitouch mouse on the market.

Like the Mighty Mouse, the new mouse functions as one big button (Pushing down translates to a mouse click.), while tapping the sides of the top lets you effectively right and left click. The biggest news here, though, is the multi-touch tech that’s been added to the mouse. The top of the mouse functions as a multi-touch gesture pad, allowing you to swipe and scroll through documents, Web pages, the Finder, and more.

9 to 5 Mac reports that it has received a tip claiming that Apple is in the process of developing an application to bring FM radio functionality to the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s also reported that you’ll be able to listen to the radio in the background, allowing you to use apps at the same time, just like you listen to music synced to your iPhone or iPod touch.

The holdup on this app is that Apple is trying to integrate the Mobile iTunes Store purchases into the functionality of the program. For instance, if you like a song you are listening to on the radio (and that station supports tagging and you are in the US), you will be able to push a button and see the song (and all of the information around it) in the iTunes Mobile store. With another click, you’ll be able to make a purchase. This is an extension of the Song Tagging feature used in the iPod Nanos. Perhaps they could even add some Shazam technology to help with those stations that don’t support tagging.
