While installing Firefox (and not using IE) is one of the most important steps users can take towards a safe online experience, Firefox is (alas) not totally safe out of the box. We present you some of security extensions for Firefox, followed by those that will keep your private data….private.
1. Dr.Web anti-virus link checker – Check any file you are about to download with the online version of Dr.Web anti-virus. Right click on a link and choose “Scan with Dr.Webâ€.
2. AI Roboform Toolbar for Firefox – Works as a toolbar with RoboForm to manage and protect your passwords.
3. McAfee SiteAdvisor – Warns you before you interact with a dangerous Web site. You can see this if you view the search results of a search engine. Next to each result you can see a green, yellow or red icon.
4. FirePhish Anti-Phishing Extension – Anti-phising toolbar that works with the Open Phishing Database.
5. KeyScrambler Personal – Encrypts your keystrokes at the kernel driver level to protect your login information from keyloggers. While installing you also have the option to install this plugin voor Internet Explorer. Once you have it running it’s difficult to see if it’s working or if it’s not working.
6. Link Alert - Changes the color of your cursor to indicate visually what the link you are hovering over does.
7. NoScript – NoScript is easily one of the most powerful and effective methods of keeping yourself safe online. However, it does have the unfortunate side effect of temporarily breaking most Web sites that you visit. Once you understand how it works, this is simple enough to fix, but it does mean that the extension will never be installed by default–as it would confuse the heck out of your grandmother.
8. Secure Login - Store login information and fill in forms with a click.
9. Magic Password Generator – Enter a master password and generate unique passwords for each site from it. Will also auto-fill in email addresses and name.
10. FoxyProxy - Completely replaces the built-in Firefox proxy system giving you more complete control.
11. CookieSafe – Gives you control of sites setting cookies on your system from a convenient location on the status bar.
12. Stealther – Temporarily disables features such as cookies, browsing history and much more so that you leave no trace of your surfing while it’s active.
