1. Download and install iTunes 8.2 or higher version.
2. Download iPod Touch 1G OS firmware 3.0 Apple Device Software Update IPSW from here for 1st generation iPod Touh
And
For 2nd generation iPod Touch Here are 3 Rapidshare Links, Download them all and Join with them Hjsplit

3. Plug in and connect the iPod Touch to computer.
4. Run iTunes 8.2 or higher.
5. Select the iPod Touch from Devices list.
6. Optional but recommended, take a backup of the iPod in case of accidental file lost.
7. Click on Restore while holding Shift (for PC) and Option (for Mac).
8. Browse to the Firmware 3.0 for your device and select it.
Thats it! Now you can Enjoy the Firmware 3.0 in your iPode Touch Free.

WORKED GREAT – EASY TO SET UP
It said the firmware was not compatible with my ipod touch. What did I do wrong???
I tried doing this, i managed the download and everything but once i have the file on my folder and i try doing the process on itunes, the file doesn’t work. It says firmware -> and then two folders that say ‘dfu’ and ‘all_flash’. What can I do to get it right??
does it work on jailbroken ones?

SWEET! Worked perfectly. Fantastic, simple instructions… the hardest part was locating my temp files after the download! itunes did the rest, and although it wants me to upgrade to 3.1, I’m quite happy staying with this and not giving them my credtcard details

Downloaded ok.Using itunes 9 wanting to upgrade from 1.1.5 to 3.1 when I hit the shift/restore keys it just opens up in My Docs!!

Sweet!, it worked fine for me, I upgraded my first gen 2.2 software {previously 1.1 software (also hacked up to 2.2)} with no problems. Had to wait several hours but it was worth it.

I have iPod Touch 1G and tried the appropriate update from the link above.
Followed the procedure with no problems. About half way through the upgrade process, it stopped with error 14 – no idea what it means. The only way to get the iPod back was through a full restore.
Repeated the process twice, with the same error every time.
Any suggestions how to solve this?
