for the 2G ipod touch so you open the files seperately while holding shift and clicking restore bcuz there are 3 different file ? HELP ASAP !

hey raj i was just wondering if my software that i downloaded (3.1 for 3rd gen) has the ending .ipsw.zip do i delete the .zip and keep the .ipsw?

You have to UNZIP it first than you get the .ipsw file

recently my IPOD TOUCH 8GB was replaced by new 1.. but in this new 1 am unble 2 play mor games coz of older OS. THE ERROR COMING AS ” UPLOAD NEWER VERSION OF OS” BUT HOW??? HOW???

I am trying to update my 2G 16 gb version 2.2 ipod touch using itunes 9 to 3.1 and am getting an error that says the firmware file is not compatible so I tried the other 2 versions, the 1st gen and the third gen files and none of them work. I had followed the steps including the joining of the files.

Any suggestions?

After downloading one of the 3 rapidshare files, I open it, and it says ‘Windows cannot open this file’; the icon is of a blank sheet with a corner folded over. I’m positive I have downloaded the right Generation.

hey Raj i know this post is kinda old..anyway i got a jail broken 2.2.1 G2 itouch and when i try to update it it works but right before it ends it says that my ipod could not be restored and that the device isn’t eligible for the requested build. help me

Hi Raj! been reading the previous posts from other peeps who are having a problem in updating their itouch. already followed your instructions to have a successful upgrade but an error message displaying “the ipod could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible”.

may ipod touch is 1G (1.1.5). hope you could help me. thanks!

hey raj im having some trouble updating my sisters itouch im pretty sure its 1gen and i download that part i get the icon as a box showing the itunes logo and a ipod on both sides im pretty sure thats rite. so this is not the problem i go to itunes and shift click restore and i search for the file. once i get it i double click it and it says the firmware is not compatible iv gone to numerouse sites and yet some people have the same problem as me yet they are not answered i was hoping if you could get to me on this thanx.

i got the same problem as everyone else.
i got 2g 8gb, i download the three links, join them, open itunes 9, shift + click restore, select the file, it extracts software, then verifies with apple or something then it comes up with, “This Ipod could not be restored. This device isn’t eligible for the requested build.”

can anyone help???

First you guys have to check which iPod version you have than download according it. After that it will work.

sir i have ipod touch 2G in which the version is 2.2.1. according to your saying i downloaded the 3 parts of ipsw files and joined them with hj-split, tried to restore by holding the shift key while clicking on to the restore button. the progress bar comes saying extracting software after that it says “verifying ipod” , then “preparing ipod for restore” after that it says “checking with apple” after this it come up with error saying “the ipod could not be restored. This device isn’t eligible for the requested build”. please help me with this, any help would appreciable

Hi, as I’ve looked through the comments (to solve my problems with this)
I’ve noticed that the ipods 2.2.1 are the problem.

I’m 100% sure that I’ve a 2G itouch (looked it up the internet, there is no doubt). But as the others told you so far, it won’t work.

Why isn’t anyone addressing the question of the error message after checking with Apple “this device isn’t eligible for rebuild”? Will this screw up my iPod? Right now I just can’t play a game or two that I want, but I can still use it.

Hi Raj,
I’ve got an iPod touch 2Gen (version 2.2.1 with a specific ‘build’ number).
Now I’ve downloaded iTunes 9 up-to-date version, then the downloaded the links for 2Gen and joined them via hjsplit. Hooked my device with PC and followed you’re instructions, but when it started updating to version 3.1 (at the ‘verifying with Apple site’ stage) it poped a message telling that the update doesn’t comply with my device’s ‘build’.
I’m so frustrated that after all the procedure, it didn’t succeed.
Any help please???

I downloaded al the links for the @G and when i joined them it works. but then when i press shift and try to restore it says after it trys to “confirm with apple” that its not compatible with this build…HELP

i have an ipod touch Version 2.1 and i’ve download all the ipod 2G links,
it was already saved as .ipsw. i tried ur steps by steps but everytime when i get to step 7, none of the files appears in the open window. i’ve try to copy the file to desktop and tried again but failed? can you help me?

Can you help me, because i am still struggling with an ipod touch and how to put the firmware on an ipod touch? my ipod touch 8GB abd 3g and version 3.1 before then now my ipod touch 6.4gb and4.0 version and what’s it that for ??? :S Can you explain how to put in a firmware ipod touch ??? PLEASEE!!!!
