1. Download and install iTunes 9

2. Download iPod Touch 3.1 firmware from these link:-

  1. iPod Touch 1G Link :- Click Here
  2. iPod Touch 2G Here are 3 Rapidsahre Links, Download all the 3 and Join them with HJsplit. Here are the 3 Link:-
  3. iPod2_1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw.001

    iPod2_1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw.002

    iPod2_1_3.1.1_7C145_Restore.ipsw.003

  4. iPod Touch 3G Link :- Click Here

3. Plug in and connect the iPod Touch to computer.

4. Run iTunes 9

5. Select the iPod Touch from Devices list.

6. Optional but recommended, take a backup of the iPod in case of accidental file lost.

7. Click on Restore while holding Shift (for PC) and Option (for Mac).

8. Browse to the Firmware 3.1 for your device and select it.

    hello ,

    I have downloaded the 3.1 firmware , but its in the Zip format. Renamed the extension to .ipsw but still when i try to update from the itunes it doesnt show up the downloaded file.

    Please let me know is there any other way to update it.

    First Save that file on your desktop

    than Click on Restore while holding Shift (for PC) and Option (for Mac). And Browse your Files from Destop. Thats it

    Hey Raj,

    I accidentally did the above steps in Itunes8, instead of 9. Now Itunes does not recognize my ipod touch.

    Please advice!!
